What will your employees achieve? Driving Goods Vehicles is an NVQ Level 2 qualification. NVQs are practical qualifications which assess and recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding your employees have in a work situation. This NVQ offers your employees the opportunity to demonstrate they have the skills to carry out their role to national standards. It will also broaden their knowledge of the transport and logistics industry. Having a recognised qualification will help them in their work, and open doors to future career development. Who is it aimed at? Driving Goods Vehicles is designed for employees involved in the transport and delivery of goods. This includes - Experienced employees, who wish to have their competency recognised and gain certification
- New employees who have undergone basic training and are in the process of gaining industry experience
- New drivers or those who have limited experience
There are no entry requirements or age restrictions for this NVQ. Your employees will, however, need to have a full driving licence appropriate for the vehicle they are using. The NVQ Level 2 does demand more than is required for the statutory driving test. It allows your employees to demonstrate competence in: - Pre-driving checks (including the use of tachographs) and monitoring the loading of goods
- Driving skills (while driving a goods vehicle that is laden with their typical load)
- Driving safely with acceptable wear and tear on the vehicle
- Unloading goods vehicles, coupling and uncoupling vehicles
How long will it take? Seven units must be completed. This can be done over a period of time, which is negotiable with our trainers and assessors. There are no written exams – our assessors will look at the evidence your employees provide to see whether they meet the requirements. Evidence could include statements from managers or records such as delivery documents. What does the course cover? Seven mandatory units must be completed. Mandatory units - Monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others
- Completing pre-driving preparations
- Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property
- Maintaining awareness of driving conditions
- Operating the vehicle systems
- Driving the vehicle on public roads
- Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces
Each unit is broken down into elements, which describe the tasks to be carried out. For example, Unit 1 (Monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others) contains - Element 1.1 Prepare the vehicle for loading
- Element 1.2 Monitor the loading of the vehicle
